With Manchester City recently being charged with breaching a number of financial regulations, another European giant in Paris Saint-Germain is also now under investigation.
Report: Zidane To Takeover PSG, On One Condition
According to Reuters, the record Ligue 1 champions have been placed under investigation by French prosecutors over alleged undeclared labour.
The reigning French champions have reportedly only been paying Tunisian national Hicham Bouajila sporadically through a tennis academy in Qatar despite the fact that he works for president Nassir Al-Khelaifi as an advisor, according to Bouajila’s lawyer, Bertrand Repolt. "Following a complaint received on Dec. 13, 2022, an investigation was opened on Jan. 16, 2023 on the grounds of undeclared work," the office told Reuters.
However, a spokesperson for PSG's ownership group, Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), has claimed in a statement that Bouajila has never been an employee of the Paris-based outfit.
"We won’t make any further comment about completely spurious individuals who trade on misinformation and media manipulation," the statement said.
These allegations come in the midst of perhaps a crucial time for QSI as the Middle Eastern company look to expand their footballing empire. Reports have suggested that the group are interested in acquiring a minority stake in a Premier League club, with Tottenham Hotspur linked the most with a possible acquisition.
