Record heavy rain forces evacuations, flood warnings over Australia's east coast

Australia's east coast was smashed by major rains on Saturday, forcing multiple evacuation orders and pleas from authorities for folks in Sydney to remain in the home amid the potentially life-threatening flash flooding.
Most of the coast of the New South Wales (NSW) talk about, which is home to in regards to a third of Australia's 25 million people, has recently seen March rainfall information broken with heavy rainfall forecast to keep for the rest of the weekend.
"It's not just the full total rainfall amount, it's also how quickly and intensely that rainfall has got in fact fallen," Agata Imielska, a senior climatologist with the Bureau of Meteorology, said at a televised briefing.
"As a result today (we) are simply really urging the city out there that may be the day to workout that powerful protective actions of staying residence and staying safe."
Tv set footage showed flooded roads over the state, people kayaking through the roads, water engulfing residences up to the home windows and rivers overflooding. Video posted on social media and broadcast on localized TV showed a whole house being swept away in floodwaters in the state's centre.
NSW emergency companies have responded to more than 800 demands help since Friday night time, including several hundred for rescue from flooding.
The Bureau of Meteorology has warned the heavy rainfall could lead to life-threatening flash flooding amid damaging winds as high as 70 kilometers each hour with gusts exceeding 90 kilometers each hour.
Imielska said the Greater Sydney region would find rainfall totals this weekend of around 100 millimeters and the low Blue Mountains was likely to see 200-300 millimeters.
Sydney's Warragamba Dam, a significant water source for the city, was likely to overflow later on Saturday, and combine with river flows to potentially reason flooding across western Sydney, meteorologists said.
Among Australian turf's marquee horse races, the A good$3.5 million ($2.7 million) Golden Slipper at Sydney's Rosehill racecourse has been postponed by weekly, the initial delay since 1963.
