Red-Hot Benzema Sends Real 10 Points Clear

Real Madrid moved 10 points clear at the top of the LaLiga table after defeating Real Mallorca 3-0 on Monday evening.

Carlo Ancelotti made four changes from the win over Paris Saint-Germain, as Lucas Vazquez, Ferland Mendy, Casemiro and Rodrgyo were handed starting berths.
Mallorca should have been ahead after 11 minutes when Olivan's cross found Vedat Muriqi at the far post, but the forward failed to hit the target from the close range. Los Blancos managed to carve out an opening of their own in the 27th minute when Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior combined to set up Toni Kroos, who sent a strike inches wide of the upright.
It was a lively affair at Soi Moix, as the hosts squandered another opening 10 minutes before the break though Maffeo who dragged his effort wide after pouncing on Nacho's clearance.
After a scoreless first half, the visitors opened the scoring 10 minutes into the second half as Benzema turned provider to pick out Vinicius, who slotted through the legs of Sergio Rico.
Ancelotti refreshed the pack soon after, with Federico Valverde and Casemiro making way for Luka Modric and Eduardo Camavinga while Mallorca threw on Salva Sevilla and Abdon Prats.
Any hopes of a Mallorca comeback were dashed in the 77th minute when Los Blancos were awarded a penalty for Oilvan's foul on Vinicius. Benzema took responsibility and made no mistake from 12 yards.
That proved to be the nail in the coffin as Benzema completed his brace with eight minutes left on the clock after turning home a cross from substitute Marcelo.
The win takes Madrid 10 points clear of second-place Sevilla and 15 clear of FC Barcelona, who they face on Sunday night.
