Reports: What Setien Told Messi In Heated Fallout
03 November, 2020
After Quique Setien insisted that Lionel Messi was difficult to control at FC Barcelona, it has been claimed the pair had a huge dressing room spat once, and what they thought to each other for the reason that moment has now reportedly been revealed.
Setien was replaced by Ronald Koeman following a Catalan club's 8-2 loss to0 Bayern Munich in last season's UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, but things for the Spanish tactician were reportedly tricky a long time before that result.
In a recently available interview, Setien claimed that the six-time Ballon d'Or winner was difficult to work with during his half a year in control, saying that "he's very reserved but he enables you to see the things that he wants. He doesn't talk much."
Following ex-Real Betis manager's remarks, new details have seemingly emerged over a dressing room clash between Messi and Setien after a 2-2 draw against Celta Vigo in June, a result that hurt Barcelona's likelihood of retaining the LaLiga trophy.
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reports that the 33-year-old had asked Setien to respect the players in the team who had won more than him, to which the former Barca boss is thought to have replied: "Unless you like what I said, you understand where in fact the door is."
Setien was responsible for the Blaugrana for 25 games, and claimed victory in 16 of those matches.
