Samsung to Ditch 5G Connectivity for Next Foldable Phone
Samsung's next foldable smartphone will only be equipped for 4G or LTE rather than 5G mobile connectivity.

Industry insiders on Tuesday said Samsung is in discussion with domestic telecoms to finalize the decision.

Samsung unveiled a teaser for the clamshell phone in San Jose, California last month, just two months after the belated launch of its first foldable phone, the Galaxy Fold.

The gimmick of the new phone is unlike the Fold's because it doubles over to half-size like a flip phone, and a 5G connection would apparently take up too much space. 5G phones require handsets to be fitted with two antennae and chips.

Samsung believes demand for 4G smartphones will continue for another two or three years since most of the world still lacks adequate 5G infrastructure.
