Setback for Samsung's Galaxy Fold as Glitches Delay Launch
Samsung does not seem to be ready yet to release its foldable Galaxy Fold smartphone after it delayed its planned launch last month due to screen problems.

Originally, the new smartphone was to be released in the U.S. on April 26. But the company cancelled the launch after screen problems with review models sent out to tech reporters.

"We are making progress in enhancing the Galaxy Fold to make sure it measures up to the high standards we know you expect from us," Samsung said in an e-mail to its U.S. pre-order customers on Monday.

But it admitted that it "cannot confirm the anticipated ship date yet."

"If we do not hear from you and we have not shipped by May 31st, your order will be canceled automatically," it added. Customers "may request that we keep your order and fulfill it later," if they do not want their order canceled.

In an earlier email to pre-order customers in the U.S. late last month, when it decided to cancel the release, Samsung promised to release the new phone in a few weeks.

"We are working to improve the product quality before setting a release date," a Samsung executive said.
