02 March, 2021
Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Recreation area, a study and development free zone, launched a fresh hub targeting opportunities on energy and low carbon.
The MEA Energy Technology Hub will function as a "regional gateway to innovation and business growth" and can turn to tackle challenges facing the energy sector.
The hub will "release, scale-up and commercialise technology ventures" through initiatives such as for example accelerators and collaboration programmes.
Human capital development and triple-helix engagement, which identifies ground breaking interaction between government, exclusive sector and academia, may also be a concentrate at the strength hub.
Spanish innovation consultancy Barrabés.biz is involved with building the hub, which will also look at helping the UAE's growing renewable industry.
“The purpose of the MEA Energy Innovation Hub is to market the most recent innovations that travel the road of sustainable creation, and discover ways to confront the consequences of climate change and mitigate global warming,” UAE energy and infrastructure minister Suhail Al Mazouei said at the release of the brand new initiative.
A new focus area for innovation will come to be hydrogen, he added.
The UAE and other oil producers in the Gulf, such as for example Saudi Arabia, want to produce green hydrogen from renewables.
The clean fuel will form the main UAE's mix of green energy, since it appears to diversify its consumption from hydrocarbons.
"Our region happens to be the most competitive with regards to expense at $1.5 per kilogram, indicating that the advancement of sustainable infrastructure and renewable energy projects may be the core of the UAE's international initiatives," Mr Al Mazrouei stated.
The country wanted native and international partners to find "new solutions" to old challenges.
