Singapore-Desaru ferry services to begin operating on Jul 7, tickets on sale starting Jun 30
A ferry service between Tanah Merah terminal in Singapore and Desaru Coast terminal in Johor will begin operating on Jul 7.

In a joint press statement issued by Desaru Coast Destination Resort and Desaru Link Ferry Services on Wednesday (Jun 22), they said that in the initial months, the ferry operator will offer one round trip service daily with a 330-passenger capacity ferry between Thursdays and Sundays.

The inaugural ferry service for the newly approved route will be on Jul 7, 2022, said the statement. The journey time is around 90 minutes per way, the statement also said, adding that frequency of services and the capacity of ferries will be scaled up as demand increases. “Ferry tickets and service schedules will be made available online at desarucoast.com and batamfast.com on Jun 30, 2022.”

Ms Roslina Arbak, the managing director and chief executive officer of Desaru Development Holdings One Sdn Bhd, was quoted as saying in the statement: “We thank all government agencies for supporting and working closely with us to facilitate this new international connectivity, which will make Desaru Coast even more accessible to international travellers.

“This is a game-changer for the destination. It will enable us to unlock new market opportunities in all travel segments and at the same time, positioning Desaru Coast as an attractive hospitality investment to draw like-minded investors for our next phase of growth."

On Tuesday, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) announced that approval has been given for the ferry service between Tanah Merah terminal and Desaru Coast terminal.

The MPA approval comes after the authority said in April that it would approve the ferry service only if it was satisfied the service could be operated safely.

The authority received a proposal from ferry operator Batam Fast in March this year to operate the new service between Desaru Coast and Tanah Merah.

Desaru Link Ferry Services is a subsidiary of Batam Fast.

MPA had asked Batam Fast to submit a navigational safety assessment for the proposed route and an emergency response plan.

It also asked for an attestation from the certifying authorities that the ferries to be used were fit for the proposed voyage.

"MPA has reviewed the submission and assessed that Batam Fast has met the safety requirements for the proposed ferry service," it said on Tuesday.
