TikTok taps new CEO from Chinese mother or father firm
The fast-growing video-sharing application TikTok has named a fresh top executive who'll keep his responsibilities at Chinese parent firm ByteDance.

A statement said Shouzi Chew, ByteDance's chief personal officer, will now also become CEO of TikTok.

Vanessa Pappas, who has served as interim head, will formally have the position of TikTok chief operating officer, the business said, continuing with her recent responsibilities.

The announcement was referred to as a "strategic reorganization to optimize TikTok's global teams and support the company’s unprecedented growth."

"The leadership staff of Shou and Vanessa sets the stage for sustained growth," said Yiming Zhang, founder and CEO of ByteDance.

"Shou brings deep knowledge of the company and market, having led a workforce that was among our earliest investors, and having performed found in the technology sector for ten years. He will put depth to the crew, focusing on areas incorporating corporate governance and long-term organization initiatives."

The move employs an effort by the administration of former president Donald Trump to ban TikTok in the usa or force a sale to an American-owned entity, over claims that the software could pose nationwide security risks.

At least one statement said the Biden administration had abandoned the Trump work, which aimed to sell TikTok to US tech giant Oracle and retail electricity WalMart.

TikTok is thought to have some a single billion users worldwide including a lot more than 100 million in the United States, and is especially favored by young smartphone users.
