26 April, 2020
Mohamed Salah has enjoyed great success with Liverpool recently, but legendary goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary has revealed why the Reds star is not considered's Egypt's greatest player.
Salah has established himself as you of Europe's elite scorers with the Premier League club in recent seasons after winning the golden boot in the 2018/2019 season.
Those goals also helped Liverpool secure the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup as the club are two wins from lifting the league title.
Despite those accolades, El-Hadary feels the 27-year-old can't be considered the Pharaoh's greatest footballer without winning the Africa Cup of Nations.
"Salah won prestigious titles with Liverpool, he is a role model to any player on the globe," the four-time Africa Cup of Nations winner told Al Kahera Wal Nas.
"He also participated on the globe Cup which is a huge achievement. However, what he lacks is winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt to be the best player ever in the annals of the Pharaohs."
Egypt were Afcon hosts in 2019, but Salah and his Pharaoh teammates were bundled out of the tournament by South Africa in the round of 16.
