Balotelli Says He Would've Made Italy Players Take The Knee
05 July, 2021
Mario Balotelli says he would've made the Italy players take a knee before the game if he was in the squad for EURO 2020.
The likes of England, Scotland, Wales, Belgium and Germany all took the knee at least once before their games at the tournament as a message to say no to racsim.
Taking the knee was not mandotory for teams and while some nations confirmed they would not be joining the anti-racism genture, Italy were undecided before doing it before their clash with Belgium
Balotelli reveals he would have made his teammates take the knee if he had been selected to go the tournament.
“Of course I would have taken the knee," Balotelli said in Q and A on social media, as per the Sun.
“And I would have made everyone else do the same.”
Before Italy's clash over Belgium, The Italian Football Federation claimed they would take the knee but they do not support the 'campaign'.
“As Chiellini explained, the team will kneel in solidarity with the opponents,” the federation said, according to La Repubblica.
“Not for the campaign itself, which we don’t share. The Austrian players didn’t kneel and ours remained standing. If those from Belgium do so, ours too will in solidarity with them.”
