FC Barcelona needed penalties to book their spot in Supercopa de Espana last after defeating Real Sociedad on Wednesday night.
Messi was overlooked of the matchday squad with a great apparent personal injury, while Ronald Araujo and Clement Lenglet came in for Sergino Dest and Samuel Umtiti.
Socieadad looked lively in the early stages of the initial one half, with Alexander Isak and Andoni Gorosabel both heading close in the beginning 15 minutes.

Both sides went searching for successful in the latter stages of the second half, but neither could actually find the goal as extra-time was needed.

It was the Catalan giants who held their nerve to triumph 3-2 found in the shoot-out because they now await the winner of the next semi-final against Atheltic Bilbao and Real Madrid.
