Chuseok-Table Costs to Soar Because of Poor Harvest
15 September, 2020
A heat wave followed by an archive monsoon against the backdrop of the coronavirus epidemic has led to a poor harvest and manufactured the ritual Chuseok table much more expensive.
By some projections rates could soar by up to twenty five percent.
Korea Price Information last week said that you will be charged W275,000 to prepare a ritual table this year for a family group of four if the meals is bought within an outdoor industry, up 16.5 percent from last year (US$1=W1,184). But if indeed they result from the supermarket, they will cost W404,730, up 24.7 percent.
KPI pointed out that while the Chuseok holiday happens 15 days later than this past year, unusually warm weather in the early summer and frequent rainfall and typhoons have delayed the ripening of vegatables and fruits. The coronavirus epidemic likewise resulted in declining production as people tightened their purses.
Lee Dong-hoon in KPI said, "Persons should leave it seeing that late as practical to buy their make for Chuseok to progress quality."
