Fellow signings such as Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane also joined Ronaldo in the starting line-up, and the latter nearly made his first start a telling one after he ran clear to nod an in-swinging corner-kick from Luke Shaw wide.
It was all the Red Devils a little over the half-hour mark and a thread of a pass by Ronaldo to Bruno Fernandes saw the latter fire in from range with Sancho unable to help it in with a faint touch.
The Red Devils made the breakthrough on the stroke of halftime and it was Ronaldo that tapped home from close range after Freddie Woodman parried Mason Greenwood's shot into the path of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.
Newcastle clawed back ten minutes in the restart after Javier Manquillo drove a pass from Allan Saint-Maximin into the far corner for his first-ever Magpies goal.
Ronaldo came good for the host again midway in the second half when he beat the offside trap to slam a ball through the legs of Woodman and into the net.
A substitution from the home side’s manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer followed later on, with Sancho withdrawn and Jesse Lingard thrown on.
The Magpies experienced more misery ten minutes to full-time after Fernandes collected a pass from Paul Pogba to fire beyond Woodman from the edge of the area.
Lingard put the result out of reach with a clever finish from inside the area in the dying minutes off a ball by Pogba, as the Red Devils climbed to the top of the table.
