Haaland Breaks Two EPL Records
01 September, 2022
Following his hat-trick against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night, Erling Haaland has now broken two Premier League records just five games into his Manchester City career.
The Premier League is undoubtedly one of the toughest leagues on the planet, and some top players in the past have needed time to elevate their game to the standards required to succeed, while many more have failed altogether.
Following his official debut in City's FA Community Shield defeat to Liverpool, it seemed Haaland would be categorised as one of those who need time to adjust to the English game.
Now, though, five games into his league career with the Citizens, the Norwegian has put those murmurs to rest emphatically. Following his exploits against Crystal Palace last weekend, Haaland, for the second consecutive game, was able to find the back of the net three times on Wednesday night, with the 22-year-old scoring his hat-trick in the first half as City went on to defeat Forest 6-0.
His goals against the Tricky Trees takes his tally for the league season to nine strikes in just five games, making it the highest number of goals scored that early in a player's Premier League tenure, as per Opta Sports.
The Leeds-born striker surpasses previous record holders Mick Quinn and Sergio Aguero, who both had eight goals after their first five EPL games.
It also took the former Molde man five matches to score two hat-tricks in the league, a new competition record.
It had taken Senegalese forward Demba Ba 21 games and Fernando Torres 23 games to achieve this feat, while Haaland did it in significantly less time.
The Scandinavian now sits at the top of the league's top goalscorers list, four goals ahead of second-placed Aleksandar Mitrovic of Fulham.
