Haaland Shines On PL Debut To Hand Man City Victory

Erling Haaland marked his Premier League debut with two goals as defending champions Manchester City defeated West Ham United on Sunday evening.

Haaland was given his league debut for the Citizens, while Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden were recalled to line up in place of Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez.
The Hammers looked lively in the early stages, as Jarrod Bowen and Kurt Zouma both had efforts block in the opening 10 minutes of the first half.
Pep Guardiola's side had the ball in the back of the net just before the 30-minute mark when Kevin de Bruyne finished off a neat move, however the goal was ruled out for an offside in the build-up.

The Citizens were awarded a penalty in the 34th minute after goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, who replaced the injured Lukasz Fabianski, brought down Haaland who took responsibility and calmly tucked it home.West Ham struggled to carve out any clear-cut openings for the remainder of the half, which prompted coach David Moyes to introduced new signing Gianluca Scamacca and Said Benrahma in the second stanza.
However, it was City who doubled their lead in the 65th minute as Haaland latched on to De Bruyne's through ball before calmly slotting past Areola.
The Norwegian striker was unable to complete his hat-trick, as he was withdrawn for Julian Alvarez in the final 12 minutes while Silva replaced Gundogan in the midfield.
