Ronaldo Closing In On Next Move?
25 July, 2022
According to reports, Cristiano Ronaldo appears to be close to getting his wish to leave Manchester United in this transfer window.
The 37-year-old's push to depart the 20-time English champions seems to be continuing, with reports at the weekend claiming that United are becoming more open to the idea of his departure.
As per the Daily Mirror, the Red Devils would be willing to let the five-time Ballon d'Or winner leave on loan in this window, amid rumours suggesting that Atletico Madrid are among the favourites to land his signature. Journalist Duncan Castles has reported that Ronaldo is "receptive" to the notion of joining Los Rojiblancos ahead of the 2022/23 season, despite his status as a Real Madrid legend.
The Portugal international reportedly sees Atletico as a club that could provide a "platform to compete in the UEFA Champions League and for LaLiga", and has been impressed by Diego Simeone's "eagerness" to work with him.
Ronaldo returned to United in August last year on a two-year contract but is determined to secure an exit after the team failed to qualify for next season's Champions League.
While manager Erik ten Hag has insisted the ex-Real and Juventus talisman is not for sale, Ronaldo is yet to arrive for pre-season training, due to a "family issue".
