iPhone XR to get long-press Haptic Touch for notifications
10 November, 2018
The iPhone XR has been one of the most hyped smartphones to come out of Apple’s production line in recent years. It retains most of the highlight features its elder brothers possess, but compromises in certain areas to keep the prices low. One of the iconic iPhone features missing from the XR is 3D Touch, which means all quick shortcuts have to be compromised with a long press gesture. The XR, therefore, misses out on the ability to view rich content in notifications from the lock screen. Seems like Apple is set to fix that soon.
The latest beta version of iOS 12 brings a new way to view rich notifications. The iOS 12.1.1 beta brings long press gestures for viewing the content of a notification on the lock screen. The long press brings up the content of the notification similar to how 3D Touch works on other iPhones. However, the Peek and Pop feature from the 3D Touch-enabled models won’t make it to the XR as it requires depth sensing on the display to bring up the content.
Until now, the only way to view the notifications from the lock screen of the iPhone XR was by swiping left and selecting the ‘View’ option. However, the long press to view notifications from the lock screen option had been available on iPad for long. 3D Touch is presently available on the iPhone 7, iPhone 8 and iPhone XS.
