Klopp Responds To Salah's Champions League Message
27 May, 2023
Jurgen Klopp has shared insight into Mohamed Salah's mood at Liverpool following the Egyptian's social media message in response to the Reds missing out on a place in next season's UEFA Champions League.
On Thursday night, the 30-year-old took to Twitter to share his disappointment after it was confirmed that he and his teammates would not be playing in Europe's biggest club competition in the 2023/24 campaign.
Salah stated he was "devastated" and that he could not find any positives in Liverpool's current situation following Manchester United's win over Chelsea, with the winger having played in the Champions League for the past six campaigns consecutively.
Klopp, though, has insisted Salah has appeared to be in a cheerful mood despite his message on social media, and added that the ex-Roma player was correct in his sentiments.
"I'm a bit worried about the headlines you create with the things I say, so do me a favour and try your best!" he said ahead of Liverpool’s final game of the Premier League season, according to Sports Mole. "Of course, the moment we find out we can't qualify, we draw a line underneath it. I am optimistic but in that moment I couldn't see it. "It's completely normal in the world of social media, so many bad things happen constantly, but I don't think Mo's message was one of them.
"He was right, but in an hour later in the canteen, he was smiling.
"It was clear very early on that this would not be a historically good season, we made mistakes, we weren't consistent enough.
"But in the last 10 games, the amount of points we collected since then was pretty good. If we did that all season, we would be different."
Liverpool's final match of the campaign will be against Southampton away from home on Sunday.
