Messi Back To Barca? Xavi Speaks
26 July, 2022
Xavi Hernandez has revealed his thoughts on Lionel Messi's potential return to Spanish giants Barcelona amid rumours the manager has asked the club to re-sign the Argentine next year.
Reports on Monday suggested that the head coach has requested that the Blaugrana attempt to bring the 35-year-old back to the Camp Nou at the end of the coming season, this after president Joan Laporta publicly stated that he "owes" Messi after the player's shock departure in August 2021.
It was said the club would consider Xavi's appeal, with the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner having just one year remaining on his Paris Saint-Germain contract.
Speaking recently on the rumour that seems to be gaining momentum, the head coach claimed it would be "impossible" right now but refused to rule Messi's possible return out in future.
"Makes no sense to speak about Leo Messi's comeback at Barcelona right now, he's under contract with PSG so it's impossible. We'll see in the future," he said, according to Spanish journalist Helena Condis.
"Laporta had already said he hoped it was not yet the end for Messi at Barca."
Messi and Xavi shared a close relationship as teammates for many years in Barcelona's first team, winning two trebles together in 2009 and 2015.
