Messi & PSG Players Trapped In Car Park After Shock Defeat
05 October, 2021
Here is why Lionel Messi and his Paris Saint-Germain colleagues were trapped in a car park following their shock Ligue 1 loss to Stade Rennais on Sunday.
Despite creating several good chances to score, the French giants suffered a 2-0 defeat to hosts Rennes on the weekend, a match in which Les Parisiens failed to register a single shot on target.
The disappointing day got worse for Mauricio Pochettino and his players as, after the game, sets of supporters from both clubs reportedly clashed in what adds to a long list of fan-involved fallouts since the Ligue 1 campaign got underway.
According to CBS Sports Golazo, the "ugly scenes" led to Messi and his teammates, as well as the home team, being stuck in the car park at the Roazhon Park stadium for some time, while it was further claimed that Rennes players were forced to "take cover".
Despite the loss on the weekend and the subsequent backlash, PSG still lead the way in Ligue 1 with eight wins in nine matches, while Pochettino's side has recorded one draw and one victory to date in this season's in the UEFA Champions League.
There have, however, been concerns over the sustainability of the team's approach to games and regarding the form of certain players, such as Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
While the 22-year-old French forward has now gone five matches across all competitions without a goal, Neymar has managed to find the back of the net just once this season so far – a penalty-kick against Olympique Lyon.
