'Messi Will Retire At Barcelona'
04 September, 2021
New Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi has been backed to retire from football as a Barcelona player, despite his emotional farewell from the club just last month.
The 34-year-old was forced to leave the Catalan giants after the club could not afford a new contract for him, bringing to an end a 21-year relationship.
In France, Messi has joined forces with superstars Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, a trio that many have backed to dominate the footballing world for the 2021/22 campaign.
Former Argentina and Blaugrana playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme appears to think along the same lines, revealing recently that he believes his countryman will win Europe's biggest club prize at PSG and then return to Barcelona.
"I hope that Messi goes on to enjoy Paris," he told ESPN.
"I don't know if it's strange, but we are all excited to see him enjoy playing with [Kylian] Mbappe and Neymar.
"If they don't win the Champions League now, they won't win it.
"I think Messi will win the Champions League with PSG and retire at Barcelona."
Messi made his debut for PSG in a 2-0 away win over Stade Reims in Ligue 1 last weekend.
