NetEase develops new 'Lord of the Rings' mobile video game with Warner Bros
Chinese games giant NetEase on Monday announced a strategic partnership with Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment to build up a fresh Lord of the Rings mobile video game, bolstering its pipeline following its secondary listing on Hong Kong.

The new officially qualified strategy game, GOD, THE FATHER of the Rings: Rise to War, is founded on the hugely well-liked trilogy of books by J.R.R. Tolkien, NetEase explained in a statement.

NetEase, along with rival Tencent and other video gaming firms, have observed games revenue soaring during the COVID-19 pandemic, as persons spend more period on the handsets and computers in lockdowns targeted at slowing the spread of the disease.

The release may be the latest effort by Chinese video game developers to expand beyond their domestic marketplace and follows separate tie-ups by NetEase this past year with Marvel and Pokemon Company.

Both Tencent and NetEase have vowed to derive considerably more proceeds from overseas markets. Last year, a NetEase executive advised Reuters the company hopes overseas revenue will account for 30 percent of its total in 3 years.

Nasdaq-listed NetEase raised at least $2.7 billion in a Hong Kong secondary offering the other day, saying it would utilize the money to invest in its international expansion plans.
