Nigeria End Benin's Eight-Year Unbeaten Record At Home
With qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations already secured, Nigeria maintained their unbeaten work in Group L with a 1-0 win away to Benin on Saturday evening.

Lesotho's 0-0 pull with Sierra Leone early in the day sealed the Super Eagles qualification to next year's show-piece plus they were looking to finish off top of Group L.

The in-form Kelechi Iheanacho was joined in the attack by Napoli's Victor Osimhen as Ahmed Musa was only named on the bench by Gernot Rohr.

The Super Eagles had to hold back before 24th minute for a sight at goal, with Osimhen firing straight at the Benin shot-stopper while Henry Onyekuru tried his luck from length moments later.

The visitors had a couple more opening towards the latter stages of the half though Iheanacho and Osimhen, with the latter going closest after seeing his shot saved.

It was sharp that Osimhen was the danger gentleman for Rohr's men, as he carved out some more chances after interval although Benin shot-stopper Saturnin Allagbe was alert to the efforts.

After waves of attack, Nigeria had to hold back until the third minute in second-half stoppage time for the only goal thanks to Paul Onuachu's strike to end Benin's impressive eight-year unbeaten track record on home soil.
