Online Retailer Coupang Frantically Woos New Staff
Online retailer Coupang is offering experienced technicians a good W50 million signing bonus if indeed they come to job for this amid a surge running a business during coronavirus lockdown (US$1=W1,203).

A signing reward is highly unusual in Korea, and an identical move made headline last year when fintech start-up Viva Republica, which operates portable payment system Toss, hired experienced personnel for a signing benefit add up to an annual earnings in their last task and a promised wage 1.5 times greater than that.

Coupang on Thursday explained it wants to employ the service of some 200 tech talents with over five years of knowledge like Google android and iOS developers, merchandise designers, and information protection engineers.

Coupang explained the idea behind what some may see due to blatant poaching. "We anticipate a whole lot of applications, but we made a decision to offer a signing bonus out of our need to recruit the very best of the best," it said.

Coupang's product sales benefited from soaring demand during lockdown and hired 20,000 new staff in the initial quarter of this year alone.
