Real Announce New Captain After Ramos' Exit
Real Madrid have confirmed their new captain for the 2021/2022 season after Sergio Ramos' departure last month.

Ramos ended his 16-year stay in the Spanish capital and joined Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer this week.

As a result, the defender's departure has seen Brazilian full-back Marcelo promoted to the club captain role ahead of the new season.

"It’s an honour and an enormous responsibility to be captain of the greatest club in the world. I’m extremely lucky," Marcelo told the club's official website.

“When you are a Real Madrid player you wake up every day full of desire and that grows after every season. I’ve been here for a long time, but the desire is still there and it just keeps on growing. I’m really looking forward to the start of the new season”.

Since joining Los Blancos from Fluminese in 2007, Marcelo has gone on to make 528 appearances for the club while winning a host of trophies.
