Messi Causes Stir By Trolling Opponent After Penalty Miss
08 July, 2021
During Argentina's penalty shootout win over Colombia in their 2021 Copa America semi-final this morning, Lionel Messi appeared to uncharacteristically troll an opponent who had missed his spot-kick.
The Albiceleste booked their place in the Copa final in the early hours of Wednesday morning after they beat Colombia 3-2 on penalties after a dramatic 1-1 draw in the regulation 90 minutes.
In the intense shootout, Colombia defender Yerry Mina confidently stepped up but had his attempt saved by the brilliant Emiliano Martinez, leading to Los Cafeteros' second miss of the shootout.
A recent video of the Everton defender dancing after converting a penalty in an earlier round of the competition went viral, which Messi seemed to remember after his ex-colleague's failed effort.
According to CBS Sports, while celebrating Martinez's save, the 34-year-old Argentina captain is believed to have passionately yelled towards the centre-back: "How about dancing now?"
Earlier in the semi-final clash, Messi and Mina appeared to exchange strong words after the out-of-contract Barcelona superstar was on the receiving end of a heavy challenge.
