Revealed: How Much Messi & Ronaldo Earned Over Last Decade
04 January, 2020
Superstars and rivals Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have dominated world football over the last decade, but how much they earned while doing so has now been revealed by Forbes.
On the field, nobody has had more of an impact over the last decade than the Juventus and FC Barcelona forwards, and it appears as if it is a similar story off it.
According to Forbes, Messi and Ronaldo have together earned more than £1 billion (R18 billion) over the last 10 years, making them the highest-earning footballers in the world.
In a list of the 10 richest sportsmen recently released by the global media company, the two goalscoring machines unsurprisingly feature near the top.
Messi, 32, was believed to have earned around £517 million (R9.6 billion) over the last decade, which sees him come in at fourth in the ranking.
His counterpart Ronaldo features in second on the list with his decade earnings of £548 million (R10 billion), which makes him the best-paid footballer over the last 10 years.
Another footballer, Neymar, is in the top 10 with his decade earnings of around £306 million (R5.7 billion).
The richest sportsman over the last 10 years was professional boxer Floyd Mayweather, who earned around £667 million (R12 billion).
