Russia offered Afghan militants bounties to kill US troops: Report

US intelligence has figured the Russian military offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants in Afghanistan to kill American troops and other coalition forces, the New York Times reported on Friday (Jun 26).
Citing officials briefed on the matter, the Times said america determined months ago a Russian military intelligence unit linked to assassination attempts in Europe had offered rewards for successful attacks last year.
Islamist militants, or armed criminal elements closely connected with them, are thought to include collected some bounty money, the newspaper said.
The White House, the CIA and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence declined requests from Reuters for touch upon the Times report.
President Donald Trump offers been briefed on the intelligence finding, the days said. It said the White House possesses yet to authorise any steps against Russia in response to the bounties.
