Samsung Display Wins Exemption from U.S. War on Huawei
Samsung Display is among the most first Korean company to acquire approval from the U.S. Department of Commerce to export products to China's Huawei, with which Washington reaches war.

Samsung submitted a request to the department in early September to sell OLED panels to Huawei and obtained approval for a handful of models.

The Trump administration blacklisted the Chinese smartphone maker in-may this past year citing security threats and required suppliers to get U.S. approval or face sanctions in the U.S. market.

Samsung, SK Hynix and LG Display also have applied for approval.

"The U.S. sanctions are designed to weaken China's dominance in the global 5G market, and displays are not core elements like semiconductors, which explains why the U.S. appears to have given approval," a business insider said.

Samsung Display may be the world's No. 1 OLED panel maker for smartphones. Prior to the U.S. sanctions, around 10 percent of its total annual output visited Huawei, or around W1.5 trillion to W2 trillion worth (US$1=W1,127).
