Scholes: Pep's Barca The Best Team I Ever Played Against
03 June, 2020
Having lost two UEFA Champions League finals to FC Barcelona, Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has insisted that Pep Guardiola's former team is the foremost side he ever went against.
The Englishman won the European tournament on two occasions with the Red Devils, but was recently asked if he feels he could have retired with more given how successful United were domestically.
Scholes, however, believes it had been just bad luck as he recently recalled the dominance that Guardiola's possession-hungry side had on teams.
"We were quite unlucky really. In virtually any other era we might have won four, five, or six European Cups," he told the AN OBJECTIVE In One Podcast.
"But the teams that were about… you look at Guardiola's Barcelona team - Jesus, how good were they?
"You could go through the team. In midfield, you'd Andres Iniesta, Xavi, Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi.
"(Thierry) Henry on the left. Centre halves of Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol. Just unreal.
"They're, without doubt, the very best team I've played against. They're among the finest teams that's ever been."
Scholes was area of the United team that lost to the Blaugrana in this year's 2009 and 2011 Champions League finals.
