Tencent follows Amazon with its first Mena data centre in Bahrain

Tencent Cloud, the cloud business arm of China-based technology firm Tencent, is establishing its 1st data centre in the centre East and North Africa since it looks to utilize the developing demand for cloud services in your community.
The business is partnering with the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) to determine the data centre, that may open by the finish of this year, the business said in a statement on Monday.
“Tencent Cloud is enthusiastic to collaborate … we will start all necessary steps … to provide better coverage all around the Mena region, fully supporting Bahrain’s cloud-initial strategy,” Poshu Yeung, senior vice president of Tencent Cloud worldwide, said.
The GCC's public cloud industry is expected to a lot more than twice in value to attain $2.4 billion by 2024, up from $956 million this past year, regarding to International Data Corporation.
In 2019, Amazon Web Services opened up three data centres in Bahrain - its primary in the Middle East. Germany's SAP provides three centres, in Dubai, Riyadh and Dammam, which property servers for native cloud computing clients.
For regional enterprises, going to a cloud system hosted by a specialised company is cheaper than creating their individual infrastructure of servers, hardware and security networks.
Some global players are establishing data centres in the region as cloud market accumulates.
“We are positive that Tencent should be able to leverage on the kingdom’s regional connectivity, local talent and organization friendly environment to expand their providers and reach clients over the region,” Khalid Humaidan, leader of Bahrain EDB - the country’s investment promotion firm, said.
