'Theatre cannot be substituted'
24 June, 2020
Actress-producer Anushka Sharma feels nothing at all can substitute the experience of watching a film on the silver screen and feels the post-COVID era can usher in a new wave where OTT systems will "parallelly exist" with theatres. "
Let's be very honest, they are extraordinary circumstances that people are all having. I believe, to judge anything based on this time would probably not be valid," Anushka advised IANS when asked if the digital method was filling a void of content material as a result of shutdown of the film industry amid the pandemic. "
But yes, certain issues have come forward, which I suspect are true. For instance, I believe the digital platforms have, not just because of COVID-19, but through the years, founded themselves in a manner that they happen to be creating a wave with the content that they're doing.
They have a wider reach. Filmmakers like us will be able to explore ideas and reports that you usually wouldn't manage to, due to - I don't know if that's the proper word - but let's say, as a result of the pressures of a box-office let go," added Anushka Sharma, who is pumped up about the launch of her next development, the supernatural thriller film 'Bulbbul' She continued: "
You need to mount a film in a specific way with stars, and you know there are certain stories and certain concepts that are harder to push (in cinema), although you understand that there is a huge audience for that in the united states."
"As well, Personally i think that theatrical releases are here in which to stay India because we, seeing that a society and a good way of life, enjoy celebrating," said the actress, who's married to Indian cricket captain ViratKohli. "We've so many festivals.
We like to get together and have an event. I think movies give you that. When you go into a theatre and the lamps go off and the silver screen comes on, I think that's an event you cannot substitute so in retrospect I feel as if you will always have theatrical releases."
