Typical UAE resident spends 7.5 hours online each day
The common resident in the UAE spent seven hours and 24 minutes online each day in 2020, it was revealed in a worldwide report.

Data from the Environment Digital Report 2021 reveal the digital life style of 43 countries last year when the Covid-19 pandemic strike and caused a move to remote performing and learning.

The report measured average time spent online by people aged between 16 to 64.

It showed that Filipinos spent the virtually all time online with 11 hours of consumption daily. JAPAN reported spending the least amount of time over the internet, at significantly less than 4.5 hours each day. In the UK, it had been six hours and 26 minutes.

Globally, an average person spent seven hours online throughout all devices - equivalent to two whole days of weekly.

“If these prices continue throughout 2021, the world’s internet surfers will spend almost 12 trillion time online this year, which translates to a lot more than 1.3 billion years of combined human period,” the report said.

The findings showed that an individual in the Emirates spends 40 hours weekly browsing the net on the smartphone. Eighty-six per cent of the populace plays online games utilizing their device.

“The emergency faced by the world this past year has made 2020 a digital year of excellence, as websites, social media pages, portals and smart sites thrived. These were the only opportinity for the world's inhabitants to pursue their lives, do the job and education,” stated Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, head of the UAE Digital Government department.

“The communications and it sector's overall infrastructure is a decisive element in enabling various sectors of society to keep the continuity of varied aspects of everyday life like work, education, and shopping.”

He as well said that digital transformation is an “urgent necessity and not a technical luxury”.

UAE residents spent 320 million hours in smartphone applications last year.

In line with the report, 99 % of the UAE community happen to be active on community media, with 97.6 % of the population who own smartphones.

Globally, there are 4.20 billion social media users.

“Despite significant shifts in digital behaviours due to Covid-19, people say that they’re spending roughly the same timeframe each day on interpersonal media today as they did this time last year,” the report said.

“Even so, GWI data does show that the daily average features increased by over fifty percent an hour in the last 5 years. The normal user today spends two time and 25 moments on social media each day, equating to roughly one full waking evening of their life every week.”

In UAE, the common internet speed on smartphones was 177.52 megabytes per second, an increase of 104.6 % from 2019.
