UK ministers consider contingency programs for local lockdowns
18 May, 2021
British ministers are thinking about contingency plans for local lockdowns or a delay to reopening over June 21 on response to concern about the pass on of the coronavirus variant 1st detected in India, THE DAYS newspaper reported in Monday.
Officials have used strategies modelled on the Tier 4 restrictions introduced last year, the paper said.
People will be advised to stay at home and non-essential shops and hospitality will be closed if the variant had not been brought in order, it said.
The newspaper said businesses in areas at the mercy of the restrictions would receive grants as high as £18,000 ($25,440) and the scheme will be administered by local authorities, with payments adjusted based on the length of restrictions.
Grants would be offered for the worst-affected sectors, such as for example nightclubs, and for "mass events" including festivals found in another scenario appearing considered with a good delay to reopening, the survey said.
Earlier on Monday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson's spokesman said the government cannot yet make a judgment in whether to just do it with an additional easing of lockdown restrictions found in England on June 21 and wanted to see as very much data simply because possible before deciding.
Britain reported 1,979 new instances of coronavirus on Monday and five deaths within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test, as the data showed 36.7 million persons had received their first vaccine dose.
