360,000 Workers at Smaller Companies on Furlough
A lot more than 350,000 personnel in little and mid-sized businesses were furloughed this past year due to slow business or halted production, 32 occasions a lot more than in big businesses.

The figure confirms that smaller businesses bore the brunt of the coronavirus lockdown.

The Korea SMALL COMPANY Institute on Mon said out of 750,000 staff furloughed this past year in businesses employing less than 300 people, 48 percent or 360,000 were placed on leave because of slow organization or halted production, an almost eight-fold increase when compared to year before.

But in companies with an increase of than 300 staff, only 86,000 employees were furloughed, and the proportion who lost their work for the same cause was just 12.8 percent or 11,000.

The institute attributed the difference to the large number of accommodations, restaurants and other service-sector businesses, which are usually smaller, that had to shut in lockdown and sent their employees temporary leave.
