Kakao Founder to Donate One half of His Prosperity to Charity
The founder of Korea's No. 1 cellular messenger service Kakao provides promised to donate more than half of his riches to charity.

Kim Beom-soo (55) is the third richest person found in Korea and valued in more than W10 trillion (US$1=W1,121).

"I have made a decision to donate over fifty percent of my personal assets throughout my entire life to solve social concerns," Kim said found in a note to Kakao personnel on Tuesday. "I am seeking to sign an adequate donation pledge to make this promise official."

This past year Kim said on a message marking the 10th anniversary of Kakao's messenger service that the business must become a leader on solving cultural problems. He spent the past 12 months thinking about how to attain the goal.

Kim is part of the first generation of IT venture capitalists found in Korea and comes from a poor family group. He was the only person of five children to go to university. After graduating from Seoul National University with a level in industrial engineering, Kim founded Hangame, which merged with Naver in 2000.

Then served as brain of parent firm NHN for seven years, and after leaving in 2007, joined the predecessor of Kakao and rolled out the popular messenger software in 2010.
