Benzema Breaks Silence On Mbappe Snubbing Real
30 May, 2022
Karim Benzema has finally broken his silence on Kylian Mbappe’s controversial decision to reject a move to Real Madrid, who won the UEFA Champions League at the weekend.
It was widely reported that the 23-year-old would be joining Los Blancos ahead of the 2022/23 campaign as a free agent, with it known that it has been a lifelong dream of his to represent the Spanish giants.
Following his decision to renew his stay in France on a three-year deal, Real players showed their apparent disapproval with cryptic social media posts, which Mbappe said he believed was a directive from the club’s board. Benzema was among those who displayed discontent, though he has insisted in a recent interview that he holds nothing against his France teammate.
"I would have liked him to be able to fulfill his dream of playing for Real Madrid, being together," he told Telefoot’s TF1.
"He chose PSG, we must respect him. It is his choice, he has many responsibilities. We will enjoy playing together in the national team.
"Everyone makes their own decisions. Real Madrid is Real Madrid, I am not disappointed. We are good friends, it will not affect our relationship."
Benzema and Real celebrated European success on Saturday night after a 1-0 win over Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, a game in which the Frenchman had a goal disallowed for offside.
The 34-year-old, however, finished the Champions League campaign with career-best 15 goals in the competition.
