Del Piero Responses On Poor Ronaldo Performance
16 June, 2020
After Cristiano Ronaldo overlooked a penalty and struggled in elements of Juventus' goalless draw with AC Milan this past Fri, club legend Alessandro Del Piero has reacted to his performance.
The Portuguese has received some criticism for his display against the Rossoneri in the second leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final previous Thursday, during which he missed a penalty and shed possession quite cheaply.
Ex-Juve captain Del Piero believes the five-time Ballon d'Or is just lacking match sharpness, though.
"Some happen to be better off physically, it's understandable," he told Sky Sport.
"He's incredibly experienced and I don't think a missed penalty will hurt him, but it's evidently annoying.
"He has moved well, although he had moments with errors in simple things; he'll grow with time. Some people are better off actually than he's, that's understandable.
"It's been three months since they've played, and now they're coming back without fans and previously with a decisive knockout tie.
"It was all very hard after a distinctive historical period. He had his excess fat on the overall game."
Ronaldo has played 33 matches across most competitions so far this year, scoring 25 goals and assisting a further four strikes.
