Lionel Messi does not often talk about his rivals, however in 2019 he revealed his five best players on the globe and explained why he didn't pick his longstanding rival Cristiano Ronaldo and himself included in this.
The 32-year-old and his longstanding rival have dominated world football over the past 15 years, with many believing they will be the best players of our generation, arguably even ever sold too.
Messi spoke about his favourite players in 2019, but insisted Ronaldo and himself are a level that beats all others.
"I don't want to forget anyone, but I feel that Neymar, (Kylian) Mbappe, (Eden) Hazard, Luis Suarez and (Sergio) Aguero will be the best," he told Radio 94.7 Club Octubre.
"I didn't include Cristiano Ronaldo in that list, because I consider him to be on a single level as me."
Messi and Ronaldo have won 11 out from the past 12 Ballon d'Ors, with only Luka Modric managing to lift the Golden Ball in 2018 to break their reign near the top of football.
In addition, they also share nine UEFA Champions League titles between them, with Ronaldo having won Europe's elite club competition five times and Messi lifting the trophy on four occasions.
