Supporters of Donald Trump and his baseless allegations that the election was first stolen rallied in the US capital on Saturday and the president, riding found in his official helicopter, flew above the cheering crowd

Thousands joined the rally, a good exhibit of support to Mr Trump and his efforts to overturn the election and snatch victory from President-elect Joe Biden.

Into the evening, police, some in riot gear, used their bodies and bicycles to keep pro-Trump and counter-protesters apart. There was also at least one clash between police and counter-protesters.

Six persons were arrested, following five arrests Friday night linked to a brawl, native media reported.

Stop The Steal, a group linked to pro-Trump operative Roger Stone, conservative organisations and church teams were involved in arranging the protest.

Trump supporters carrying flags and indicators made their way found in small knots towards Congress and the Supreme Court through Washington's city centre, which was shut off to traffic.

Few protesters wore masks, despite soaring Covid-19 deaths and cases, and despite a DC mayoral directive to allow them to be worn outside.

Several thousand persons rallied in Washington, less than throughout a similar protest previous month.

About 200 Proud Boys were seen joining the march near to the city’s Trump Hotel. Various wore combat fatigues, ballistic vests, and carried helmets.

Some Washington protesters echoed far right conspiracy theories about the election.

"It’s very clear the election has been stolen," said Mark Paul Jones, of Delaware Drinking water Gap, Pennsylvania, who sported a good tricornes Groundbreaking War hat.

A lot more than 50 federal and express courtroom rulings have upheld Mr Biden’s victory.
