Bundesliga
Result: Borussia Dortmund 5-1 Freiburg
Date: 14 January 2022
Venue: Signal-Iduna-Park
The host decided not to tinker with their starting line-up from the win at Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend and were eager to keep tact with the leaders Bayern Munich.
Dortmund were up and running within 14 minutes where a cross from Julian Brandt allowed Thomas Meunier a leap to head into the bottom-corner.
In pure identical fashion to the opener, Dortmund made it two sixteen minutes thereafter when Meunier headed in for his brace from yet another delivery by Brandt.
Unsurprisingly, it was all the Black and Yellow at this stage as opportunities for more goals fell forth but Mahmoud Dahoud, Marco Reus and Erling Braut Haaland missed entirely. The Black and Yellow bagged a third goal on the stroke of halftime when Haaland applied a neat finish in the area from a Jude Bellingham pass. With Dortmund forced to bring Manuel Akanji off the bench ahead of the restart after Emre Can picked up an injury, two chances from Bellingham and Dahoud went abegging minutes in.
Freiburg, who for much of the match enjoyed no forward ventures, manage to cut the tally in the 61st minutes from a clever finish in the area by Ermedin Demirovic.
The host however reclaimed their three-goal advantage when a through ball from Dahoud inside 75 minutes released Haaland who after taking the supply in his stride, finished with aplomb.
Dortmund collected a fifth goal after a ten minute spell when Dahoud attacked a delivery from Nico Schulz to stab into the net and helped his side to an emphatic victory in the end.
