French Striker To Come Out Of Retirement To Chase Milestone?
09 May, 2020
A former France international, who famously broke both of his legs during his career, has announced that he is desperate to come out of retirement to chase down a goal milestone.
Ex-Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse was regarded as quite the journeyman throughout his years as a specialist footballer, but scored nearly all his goals in France.
The former Reds forward, who found the back of the net 96 times in 209 matches in Ligue 1 for Auxerre, Marseille and Bastia, has said he would love to reach the 100-goal milestone.
"You know how it really is with goalscorers," Cisse told So Foot.
"We love goals, we love hitting milestones; 25, 50, 75… for me personally, it is the landmark of 100 that haunts me, I am stuck on 96 since I stopped.
"I am missing four goals and it gets to me, it drives me crazy! I would like to get back to Ligue 1 to have them. If a club takes me, I could get them in several months.
"I'm ready to keep coming back and play free of charge, without pay, so there is not much of a risk for them. For as soon as, I'm not in advanced talks with anybody but I hope that clubs can look."
Cisse, 38, first retired from football in 2015, but returned to football in 2017 with Swiss club Yverdon-Sport, and may now be set to come out of retirement once again.
