16 February, 2021
Hyundai on Monday offered a sneak peek of the inside of its latest electric powered vehicle, the Ioniq 5. It will be unveiled on Feb. 23.
The car's skateboard-shaped E-GMP platform developed specifically for EVs eliminates the lump separating the driver and passenger seats. The ground beneath the rear seats is also smooth, enabling the central gaming console container to be moved back and forth.
The platform also eliminates the drive shaft of normal cars.
The Ioniq 5 is a midsize crossover vehicle that may travel up to 500 km about the same charge. A good quick, five-minute demand lets it travelling a distance as high as 100 km.
It will cost around W50 million, falling to around W30 million including federal government subsidies, and is expected to hit showrooms found in April (US$1=W1,103).
Different global automakers are also rolling out different EVs. GM unveiled the Bolt EUV, an electric-powered SUV equipped with an autonomous-driving option. It is likely to become a "level 3" self-driving car that allows drivers to allow it get around congested expressway traffic by itself.
Volkswagen begins selling its compact electric-powered ID.4 SUV in the U.S. in March, while Mercedes Benz is launching the electric-driven S-School EQS in the next half of the year.
