Ioniq 5 EV Racks up Bumper Pre-Orders
Hyundai's new Ioniq 5 electric hatchback is on the right track to become hit since it received 23,760 pre-orders on the first time they became on Feb. 25.

It broke the prior first-day pre-purchase record for just about any car found in Korea held by Kia's Carnival minivan with 23,006 in July this past year.

Pre-orders for the Ioniq 5 were twice as high as the total number of Tesla electric vehicles sold in Korea last year.

Hyundai plans to produce 70,000 Ioniq 5s this season and sell 26,500 of these in Korea, but now it has reached 90 percent of this goal.

The battery of the Ioniq 5 could be 80 percent charged in only 18 a few minutes, and the automobile can travel up to 100 km on simply a five-minute charge.

Pre-orders are for the long-range version that may travelling between 410 km to 430 km in a single charge. The base version costs between W52 million and W52.5 million, while the high-end model comes in at W57-57.5 million (US$1=W1,129). But with taxes breaks and subsidies, the purchase price can come right down to around W35-45 million.

The Ioniq 5 will continue sale in Europe in late March.
