Man City Denied First 21/22 Trophy By Former Star
Kelechi Iheanacho came back to haunt his former side as Leicester City defeated Manchester City in the Community Shield on Saturday evening.

Result: Leicester City 1-0 Manchester City
Date: 07 August 2021
Venue: Wembley Stadium

With a number of big names missing for the Citizens, 18-year-old Samuel Edozi and 19-year-old Cole Palmer were handed starts by Pep Guardiola while new signing Jack Grealish was named on the bench.

Gundogan registered the first clear opening at goal after 15 minutes when his curling free-kick from the edge of the box forced Kasper Schmeichel into a superb save.

The Foxes managed to carve out an opening of their own on 23 minutes after some good work by Harvey Barnes in the build-up but Zack Steffen was on hand to deny Jamie Vardy.

Brendan Rodgers' men nearly got their reward on the stroke of halftime but Vardy's volley was brilliantly tipped onto the upright by Steffen to keep the scores level heading into the break.

City came out for the second half with the intent finding the breakthrough and they were nearly rewarded when Mahrez raced free on goal, but the Algerian fired over the target with Wilfried Ndidi hunting him down.

Guardiola responded with his first changes after 64 minutes as Grealish replaced Edozi for his debut while Gundogan made way for Rodri in the middle of the park.
