Mbappe Makes Big Messi Claim
21 October, 2021
Despite being known to have idolised Cristiano Ronaldo growing up, Kylian Mbappe has now made a big claim about his Paris Saint-Germain teammate Lionel Messi.
The French giants defeated RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night, in a scintillating 3-2 victory in which Mbappe scored and Messi found the back of the net twice.
During the encounter, the Argentine scored from the penalty spot for his second strike of the evening after Mbappe appeared to allow the 34-year-old to step up.
Then, in the 94th minute of the clash, the former Barcelona forward seemed to pass up the opportunity to score his first hat-trick for the club by not demanding to take the ball when the match referee blew for another penalty.
Mbappe, however, squandered his effort from 12 yards, but was still full of praise for Messi after the game, saying he believes his colleague deserves to win this year's Ballon d'Or.
"Why did I give the penalty to Messi? That's what teammates do," he told French broadcaster RMC.
"He's the best player in the world. He let me take the second penalty. Unfortunately, I missed.
"It's a privilege to play with him and it would be fully deserved if he won the Ballon d'Or."
Messi has scored three goals in six matches for PSG since his arrival at the Parc des Princes in August, with all three of his strikes coming in Europe's biggest club competition.
