Moriba Breaks Silence On Controversial Barca Exit
04 September, 2021
Highly-rated teenager Ilaix Moriba has finally spoken out about leaving FC Barcelona after contract talks broke down.
The 18-year-old made the switch to RB Leipzig after contract talks with the Catalan giants broke down in the final weeks of the transfer window.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta publicly spoke out about the player's failure to sign a new deal, while manager Ronald Koeman also warned the midfielder about focusing on the game.
Moriba has now revealed that he and his family have received quite a bit of abuse, and that he feels the comments from the club have been unfair.
"We have big goals this season and I can't wait to take on this challenge at Leipzig," he said in an interview with the Bundesliga club's website.
"The last few months have been the hardest of my life, we [his family] have received abusive messages but we've been able to get over it to be here today.
"They [Barca] have said many things that are not true and I've had to keep tight-lipped because of the respect I have for Barcelona.
"The things they have said in the press have not been fair."
