Pogba Makes Shock Retirement Admission
11 September, 2023
Having struggled on and off the field over the past year, former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has made a shock retirement admission.
Last year, the Juventus star's brother Mathias was detained for three months after being charged for his alleged involvement in a scheme to blackmail the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner.
On the field in Italy, meanwhile, injuries saw Pogba appear just 10 times across all competitions for the Bianconeri last season, and he has since revealed that his brother's actions took a toll on his health both physically and mentally. The 30-year-old has once again addressed the troubles he has faced in his personal life, admitting he considered hanging up his boots to get away from it all.
"Money changes people... It can break up a family. It can create a war," he told Al Jazeera's Generation Sport.
"Sometimes I was just by myself thinking, 'I don't want to have money anymore. I just don't want to play anymore. I just want to be with normal people, so they will love me for me – not for the fame, not for the money.
"Sometimes it's tough."
Pogba has appeared twice for Juventus so far in this campaign, although he sustained a minor injury in their most recent league match, a 2-0 Serie A victory over Empoli.
On the international stage, the midfielder last represented France in a 5-0 friendly win over South Africa in March 2022.
