Official: Messi Joins PSG, Shock Squad Number Revealed
11 August, 2021
Superstar Lionel Messi has officially joined Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.
The Argentine superstar has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the French giants and joins on a free transfer after leaving Barcelona.
Despite Barcelona's attempts to block the club from making the deal possible, the six-time Ballon d'Or was officially unveiled in the French capital.
There were reports that Neymar had offered Messi the number 10 jersey, but he has seemingly declined and will wear number 30 as he did durnig his early stages at Barcelona.
Messi becomes PSG's fifth signing after the arrivals Gianluigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi and Georginio Wijnaldum.
“I am excited to begin a new chapter of my career at Paris Saint-Germain. Everything about the club matches my football ambitions. I know how talented the squad and the coaching staff are here," he told the club's website.
"I am determined to help build something special for the club and the fans, and I am looking forward to stepping out onto the pitch at the Parc des Princes.”
The Argentine will also reunite with his former Barcelona teammate Neymar, who recently signed a new deal with the French giants.
